Low cost airlines and low cost recruitment

The next time you hop aboard a low cost airline you may be asked if you are interested in working for the airline, as cabin crew, of course!

Apparently, EasyJet have been making recruitment announcements as passengers get on board the aircraft.

It seems the policy of trying to recruit paying passengers is not just related to keeping costs low - the real reason seems to be staff shortages and dealing with a sudden rise in flight cancellations.

I don't know for sure, but I can't believe for a moment that "no-frill" airlines pay their staff well and they're probably asked to be "flexible" beyond the point that most people would say no to.

If, however, you are interested in working for EasyJet then you must, "be 18 or over, physically fit, have some face-to-face customer service experience and be able to swim at least 25 metres." If you are just interested in the story then read Budget airline launches bid to employ some of its passengers by Rupert Jones and Jeevan Vasagar of The Guardian. Of further note, as the article in question points out, the EasyJet website makes no comment on what cabin crew can expect to be paid.

On a final note - check out a new flight attendent blog: Tales of gold wing diva.
