Who are the "iconic" workers of the early 21st century?

The latest research paper to come from The Work Foundation takes quite a curious direction and considers what workers, "capture the spirit of the age" and "speak for the nature of their times."

In Paradigm Trades: The Iconic Jobs of the Early 21st Century Stephen Overell believes there are four types of workers who define our age - hairdressers, management consultants, celebrities and managers. This in contrast to how the "worker" was commonly viewed in 20th century - the "unionised, male proleterian."

Overell also believes that by recognising the iconic workers of the early 21st century we can get a better idea of what the future of work holds. It's certainly worth a look. Also see a press release for the paper.
