Blogs: Information, power and political agendas

I came across a good article the other day that, to me anyway, offers a more balanced view of blogs in general.

In brief, Paul Reynolds of the BBC suggests those in "mainstream media" (or MSM - jargon you may want to take note of) should get away from the idea of the blogosphere as being "at best a nuisance and at worst dangerous" and instead, "...regard the blogosphere as a source of criticism that must be listened to and as a source of information that can be used."

He goes onto suggest that blogs should not be dismissed for three general reasons - blogs are a useful source of information, blogs have the power to criticise and attack, and, blogs have political agendas.

In total, Reynolds' article doesn't say anything particularly new, but it does summarize very well why MSM should be wary of blogs. However, see Bloggers: an army of irregulars - (BBC News: World) to make up your own mind.

A new blog to add: Support Center Arcanum - "Call Center/Service Desk management is a daily surprise. Let's share those moments together."
