Scotland on Sunday published an interesting article yesterday on how managers often blame merger difficulties on the rather vague notion of 'cultural problems'.
In KPMG warns 'cultural problems' are only an excuse for poor management (Terry Murden) there is reference to a report from KPMG that suggests the, "difference in organisational culture was cited as the single biggest challenge during post-deal integration."
Further details of the report include:
- those that did give early attention to "cultural issues" were shown to be more likely to achieve synergies and take control more quickly
- the biggest issues faced by acquirers are getting the top team structure right and coping with different working styles.
